Heirloom Tomato Caprese Salad
When I think of summer, one of the first things that come to mind are tomatoes so sweet that you can eat like an apple. Partner those sweet heirloom tomatoes with creamy mozzarella, sweet basil, and a balsamic vinegar glaze and you have Heirloom Tomato Caprese Salad!
Because this recipe contains so little ingredients, it is of the utmost importance that you use the best quality ingredients you can get your hands on. This salad practically screams summer and it goes with ALL THE THINGS! I hope that you enjoy this recipe!
HEIRLOOM TOMATO CAPRESE SALAD
Prep Time: 10 to 15 minutes Cook Time: 0 minutes
Difficulty: Easy Yield: 4 servings
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 to 2 pounds of heirloom tomatoes, sliced to 1/4-inch thickness
- 8 ounces, fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced to 1/4-inch thickness
- Kosher salt
- Freshly cracked black pepper
- 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
- A drizzle of balsamic vinegar
- 1 bunch fresh basil, julienned
Instructions:
First, slightly season all of the tomato slices with kosher salt.
Next, assemble the salad by arranging the tomato and mozzarella slices on a platter, alternating between the two.
Dress the salad with the olive oil and balsamic vinegar followed by the freshly cracked black pepper. Finally, garnish the salad with the julienned basil. Enjoy!
Cook's Notes:
- A serrated knife works best for slicing tomatoes and mozzarella.
